With a commanding presence and dynamic leadership style, Daniel Jamieson has built an international reputation as a conductor and composer whose work captivates audiences worldwide. As a musical director, he has led live concerts, television and radio broadcasts, and recording sessions across North America and Europe.
Maintaining a full schedule of commissions, Jamieson’s compositions and arrangements are regularly showcased by premier ensembles such as the Metropole Orchestra and the Danish Radio Big Band, where he has served as both writer and conductor. Additionally, he has written for the WDR Big Band, Boston Pops, Detroit Symphony, and Cleveland Pops, and performed with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra. His work has been featured at notable events, including the North Sea Jazz Festival, Edison Jazz and World Music Awards, Toronto and Ottawa Jazz Festivals, and Tomorrowland.
Career highlights include his role as musical director for the 2024 Freddie Hubbard Revisited project with the Danish Radio Big Band and Ingrid Jensen, the 2012 John Coltrane Ballads Project with the Metropole Orchestra and Joe Lovano, the 2013 Edison Jazz & World Music Awards with the Metropole Orchestra and Marcus Miller, and conducting performances at the 2023 Toronto Jazz Festival featuring Ingrid Jensen and Christine Jensen, as well as the 2023 Jazz Education Network Conference with Sean Jones.
A respected figure in the jazz world, he has collaborated with renowned artists such as Joe Lovano, Joshua Redman, Kurt Elling, Marcus Miller, Anthony Hamilton, Jim McNeely, Vince Mendoza, Miho Hazama, Rich DeRosa, Cécile McLorin Salvant, Darcy James Argue, Ingrid Jensen, Christine Jensen, Sean Jones, Warren Wolf, Sara Gazarek, and Jon Gordon.
His debut big band album, Sudden Appearance (2011), featuring his internationally acclaimed Danjam Orchestra, was produced by Jim McNeely and showcased John Riley at the drums, establishing his reputation for innovative compositions and bold arrangements.
In 2021, Jamieson solidified his role as a leader in jazz education by founding JazzComposersPresent.com, a groundbreaking platform that has become the world’s foremost online resource for jazz composition education and professional development, attracting members from over 15 countries. He has delivered masterclasses at prestigious institutions such as the Manhattan School of Music, Berklee College of Music, Eastman School of Music, Frost School of Music, University of North Texas, William Paterson University, Texas State University, Western Michigan University, University of Toronto, Humber College, University of Melbourne, and Birmingham City University.
Since 2016, he has served as the Staff Arranger and Music Producer for The U.S. Army Field Band, where he writes for their concert band, jazz band (the Jazz Ambassadors), Soldier’s Chorus, and Bluegrass Band (Six-String Soldiers). Jamieson holds a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Performance from the University of Toronto, where he studied under Alex Dean and Tim Ries, and a Master of Music in Jazz Composition from the Manhattan School of Music, where he studied with Dave Liebman and Jim McNeely.
